Nutrition Recovery & Support Groups

Group work can be a great tool in the path toward individual healing and progress in eating disorder recovery. At Meg Salvia Nutrition, we offer the following groups:

Type 2 Diabetes & Eating Disorders

Group sessions for folks with Type 2 diabetes and prediabetes with disordered eating consist of 4-8 members and run for 10 weeks. A workbook provides structure to sessions, which also include time for processing, sharing & supporting individual experiences.

College Students

Going to college is a time of excitement and transition, but it can be difficult to navigate new environments like dorms, dining halls, or having your own kitchen and groceries for the first time. We’ve found college students who are progressing in their recovery can benefit from a supportive community of their peers.

New groups start in September, January, and June.

Here are a few basics about the nutrition support groups here at MSN:

  • Groups are small and generally consist of 4-8 members. Consistency is essential in fostering a welcoming and supportive environment, so we ask group members to commit to a series of sessions, which run along the academic schedule (fall, spring, and summer sessions).

  • Group work is not a replacement for individual nutrition counseling. Group discussions are meant to supplement the one-on-one work you do with your primary team.

  • With eating disorders, receiving appropriate care is the first priority for individuals’ safety as well as supporting the group as a whole. Because nutrition counseling as a stand-alone treatment for eating disorders isn’t sufficient, it is the policy of Meg Salvia Nutrition that participants have adequate team support, including a therapist and medical provider at a minimum.

  • In addition, collaboration is key, and we will ask for your permission to communicate with your treatment team as part of the assessment and onboarding process.

  • Groups are inclusive all genders, identities, and abilities.

  • Group participation is dependent on being in a sufficiently stable space in recovery. If eating disorder behaviors increase, or a higher level of care is needed or recommended, individuals will not be able to continue groups work. In this situation, a refund for unused sessions will be issued.

  • Group sessions are private pay (not submitted to insurance).
